A group of 4 of us will be heading there this summer and want to do a loop of the SW coastal region. We are going to hire our bikes for ease (2 of our friends are coming from the continent) and will be starting and finishing in Mawgan Porth just up the coast from Newquay (I have a friend who lives near there from years gone by). Effectively we have 6 and a bit days and were thinking of following this route but in reverse and missing out Wadebridge. http://www.cornishcycletours.co.uk/sport-cycling-holiday-tours-cornwall/road-tour-8-days/#page=page-1 http://www.cornishcycletours.co.uk/sport-cycling-holiday-tours-cornwall/road-tour-8-days/#page=page-2 effectively it would make it Day 1 St Mawgan to Portreath Day 2 Portreath to St Just Day 3 St Just to Porthleven (following the coast via Lands End) Day 4 Porthleven to Gweek (via Mullian cove and Lizad point) Day 5 Gweek to Turo (via Falmouth) Day 6 Truro to Treyarnon (Padstow) (we have already booked the YHA at Treyarnon) Day 7 Treyarnon to St Mawgan (short ride as we need to retrieve the car and be away) Anyone got any thoughts on this. We are going to be staying in B&Bs (recommendations welcome) but carrying clothes etc. We are all in our early thirties and reasonably fit. Routes and things not to miss welcome. guides to cycle tracks etc very welcome. Problems envisaged also welcome. General advice very welcome. This is the first time I have planned anything like this. I am at a very early stage i.e. I have set a start and finish point and worked out how many days we have. The distances don't look too bad but this is Cornwall and it is hilly. On top of this we do want to enjoy the cycling and not be pushed to make a destination. I am very open to change and the above are only ideas. I am not entirely convinced by staying in Truro or that final leg from Truro to Padstow. Any help is appreciated. Rob |
