I am new to cycling and bought myself a decent quality hybrid bike from my local store and decided to do the Guild Wheel on my first day out. It took me 3 hours and hurt real bad. the route itself is very pleasent with nothing major but in total I did 27 miles and it was to much to soon. Has anyone else done the wheel and what are there thoughts on it?

Hi Mark,
I've done the wheel 6 times now and taken it slowly. Even done it in reverse going up THAT HILL on Brockholes, never again! It can take about 3hrs at a decent pace ,but I tend to stop at the Shaws arms for a drink or by the river cafe for a brew and chat to other cyclists.
The first time I did it was when the plans were 1st published before the signs and roads were down, very good ride at that time for off roading but its much better now its finished and all the signs are in place. It will be better still when they finish the works at Red Scar/crematorium. Its causing havoc in both directions but will be well worth it when completed. If ever you want company again doing it, drop me a line and if I'm free, I'll join you. Bye for now, Ali

If you want to do the guild wheel you could follow route 55 into Preston and as you reach the end you will see guild wheel signs. It is a lovely ride. I'm sure the guild wheel is route622

Hi,

The quickest I've done it in is 1hr 31mins (1hr 29mins moving time) last Saturday 22 Sept on my GT 2.0 mountain bike.

Started at Sea Cadets on Strand road clockwise. Brilliant ride.

2 laps, in November, with two colleagues, ive never done it before, on a straight on racer (even tackled THAT hill without getting off) in 3.29....

in the dry (and know knowing the course) 2 laps in 3 10 is our next target
