Hi guys,

I'm a relative newby on the cycle scene and was recommended I check out cycle-route.com. This is a really awsome site! As I'm new to the sport (but super keen to get going...) I am wondering if anyone could suggest any cycle clubs around the north lanarkshire area that I might look into. Assuming this is the ideal way to get more involved and get some mileage on thos brand new wheels?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated,

Gav :)

Hi there,

I Live in Uddingston. So surrounding areas include Bothwell, Hamilton, Motherwell...
However I'm not aware of any local clubs.

Any help would be fantastic,

Gav

can't help, but i'd drop in to your nearest independent cycle shop and ask.
Many clubs arrange to meet at a shop, or use it as an unofficial base.

My Latest Route: Nov 2009 Forth Estuary Circular

The Glasgow Nightingale are not a million miles away from you. We did have a member from hamilton but hes now abroad.
They meet in torrance on a wednesday evening for confined events and training runs.
They are a very friendly bunch (male and female)
Sunday club runs are usually about 60 to 70 miles but newbies can come out and try
it out and just drop off whenever you feel like it'
usually they will coax you along as they are a real encouraging bunch.
Go on to their website and catch up with the forum.

That's brilliant thanks guys. I might just do that, torrance is probably half an hour in the car and by the sounds of it they're a real good bunch.

Thanks alot for the advice,

Gav :)

Hi there,

Just wanted to say that I've been put in touch (and am now in fact a member of...) a club in East Kilbride which is a wee bit closer to home! Just wanted to thank you for the offer of the Glasgow NIghtingale club, had I not been told of my club I'd almost certainly have come out for a ride with you guys.

Many thanks again,

Best,
Gavin

Hi Gav and all,

I have just returned to Coatbridge after 10 years in Australia and am looking for a close by club. i used to ride a bit with a local bike shop down in Oz but have been off the bike for almost 12 months and have gained loads of weight. Is the EK club road or mountain bikes and what is the pace like on the group rides,

Likewise with the Glasgow Green club.

Cheers

Hey there,

the EK club are called the Glenmarnock Wheelers and they're a road cycling club. They meet in EK (Morrisson's filling station, Greenhills road) every thursday night for kind of a casual evening run, nice relaxed pace with a wee hill at the end for a personal challenge :). Sunday morning's they're out for a longer ride, normally a few hours, but again a nice reasonably pace!

I joined as a COMPLETE beginner, hadn't been on the bike a week! They were really welcoming and I didn't feel at all under pressure or out of my depth. They're a real friendly bunch and cater for all levels.

They have a website to so check that out on google!

Gav :)

Hi I'm also looking for a cycle club in the North Lanarkshire area, I stay in Motherwell at the moment. The only thing is, I work weekends and am at Uni during the week, and any that I've seen meet mostly on Sundays. Does anyone know of any that meet weekdays?

Thanks,
Julie :)

If I get more info Gav/Julie ill post it.

Hi Gav,

I live in Bargeddie which is just a few miles from Uddingston. I too have been looking at getting involved with a club for a couple of years now but never took the plunge. Let me know if you want to try the Glasgow Nightingales and I would be happy to ride out to torrance with you if you to have a go at one of theri club runs. Ive been cycling for a few years mainly commuting into city and the occational longer ride at weekends.

Hi guys

Im new to this cycling malarky too and wish to join a club so i can be pushed right out my comfort zone.
Theres a cycle shop in west calder called Pedal Power. They do group cycle runs on Tuesday evenings.
I was told this when i popped into the shop a cpl of months ago. Ive not been as yet but planning to go along soon.
They have a forum on their web page which tells you all about it. Sounds pretty good.
