Cycle Steps
This is an off-road circular route that starts and ends in Brecon. It follows the Taff trail until the top of 7 mile bank, past the Tal-y-Bont resevoir. Then follows increasingly more and more difficult off-road paths, until you get to The Gap, the views are stunning from here.

The don't be fooled by the prospect of a descent into Brecon after all that climbing, because the start of the descent follows and old track that resembles a disused riverbed when its not raining and a riverbed when it is, it is rideable but with care and good suspension.

Eventually the surface improves for the final run into Brecon (really good chip shop on the outskirts of town) and back to the start point of the Taff Trail. Happy cycling. Despite what might sound like a negative summary I thoroughly enjoyed this trip.

I had a few problems following the route, once leaving the traff after the steady climb up from the reservoir and especially once I left the "fans". My GPS wouldn't download the 2500 or so waypoint so I had to improvise.

I ended up following a very narrow very bouldery river bed and having to go through 3 gates before joining a road and finding i was way off course.

I also struggled finding the traff trail start in the town. However finally worked out I should be following the canal. (its not obvious from the map i printed off above.

However the canalside was a lovely reprieve.
I actually started and finished by the resevoir.
Some truly stunning views. Would recommend a proper map of the area if your gps doesn't download the way points either.

Thanks for the ride :)

Very good ride, did a while back. Good uphills and down hills, though be warned when you reach th fairly steep but short downwards slope,(just before the 5th 2mile point on the map) going down to a small stream, I would advise getting off the bike and walking down, due to past experience.

Overall a nice ride, can be alot of fun and always nice in the summer to have an ice cream at the bottom of Talybont reservoir...
