Cycle Steps
This return journey is just under 60 miles. Roads are generally flat but there are a few hills to challenge most cyclists. A good level of fitness and endurance is recommended.

I love doing this ride on a Sunday morning as I know I'll get a lovely breakfast by the water when I get to the resevoir! There is a lovely cafe there overlooking the resevoir. Traffic wise it is generally quiet.

The B1022 isn't a busy road and the only increase in traffic is at the A414 at Maldon, but that is a short section of the route and can be bypassed by cycling through Maldon instead (which I did on the return journey). Follow the B1022 all the way through Tiptree and Heybridge, take the A414 to Chelmsford road then follow onto the B1418 to Bicknacre through East Hanningfield, over Old Southend Road and onto the resevoir.

I took me 1h 30mins each way with 30mins break inbetween.
