|This is a fairly flat, road route, on a mix of A, B and country roads, that has nice sights and a few little steep hills but no long hikes.
Initially head into Crofton on Lodge Lane, B6378, going through on Harrison Road and the High Street into New Crofton.
In New Crofton turn right onto Santingley Lane and head over the railway lines towards Wintersett.
Through Wintersett go straight on onto Ferry Top Lane and go by Wintersett Reservoir on the way to Cold Hiendley. At the T junction after Cold Hiendley turn right onto Cold Hiendley Common Lane. Follow this round to the left to the B6132 junction.
At the junction turn left onto Chevet Lane, B6132, and follow this into Royston. At the B6428 crossroads in Royston turn right, off the B6132 and onto the High Street, B6428, heading for Staincross.
At the T junction in Staincross, turn left onto the Wakefield Road, A61, and follow this through New Lodge and Smithies and on into Barnsley.
In Barnsley, take the A628 slip road off the A61, then turn left onto Windermere Road. At the T junction turn right onto Belgrave Road, then take a right and left towards Oakwell Stadium (Barnsley FC). Turn right onto Grove Street and go down to the A 628 T junction. Turn left onto the Pontefract Road, A628 and follow this through Lundwood, Shafton and Brierley.
At the roundabout after Brierley, turn left, off the B628 and onto Barnsley Road. Follow this into Hemsworth.
In Hemsworth, turn left onto Wakefield Road, B6273, and follow this through Kinsley and Fizwilliam, go across the B6428 crossroads and on till the A638 T junction.
At the junction turn left onto Doncaster Road, A638, and follow this across Upper Lake and past Crofton to the start point.
