A fairly gentle loop from Darlington on fairly quiet roads. Need to take care crossing A66 near Darlington Football ground, and also joining the A167 in Great Smeaton. A couple of short sharpish climbs but nothing too bad.

Did this loop this morning. Surprised by how quiet the roads were and passed some nice little villages (couple of inviting looking pubs for those not in a hurry) too.

I don't have a cycle computer but it's no way 40 miles, more like 40 km and took me about three hours starting from and returning to the middle of Darlington. A recommended ride out and not too hilly which is always nice!!

Just checked it on bing maps and its about 29 miles, don't know how the 40 miles ended up on there originally. Glad u like the route though, loads of good routes to the south of darlo!

Coming back from injury so did this over 2 days, so split the route at North Cowton and headed up to Dalton-on-tees. Lovely ride, roads quiet and in reasonable condition. Would make a lovely figure of 8 as the route from the cowtons to dalton-on-tees is a terrific few miles.
