Durham Circular via Iveston and Thornley Cycle Route
Cycle Steps | |
Starting from County Hall ride out to Sacriston turning left as you leave the village up Charlaw Fell and on to Burnhope, cross Maiden Law dropping downhill at Stoney Heap before the snaking 15% climb up to Ibeston which looks more like 30%!! Then to Knitsely before a number of steep climbs and descents through Pondfield Villa, West Bustfield and Satley before a long drag up to Inkerman. A long descent toward Wolsingham turning left toward Thornley before a killer climb up to Tow Law. Its a long fast flat section that leads to a 16% drop straight down into East Hedleyhope before sweeping along the valley floor to Waterhouses. Turn left at the crossroads and up the short sharp 15% climb of New Ivesley that leads to a much longer but less severe climb up Hedley Hill. Turning right at the top dropping and striaght down into the valley below and then another long steep climb up to Cornsay. Returning to Durham via Wilk's Hill, Quebec, Esh and Bearpark. Into Crossgate Moor, turning left along Newcastle Road, right into Springfield Road, and through to North Road before crossing Framwell Gate and back to County Hall | |
