Cycle Steps
This is a mixed route with on and off road sections, that although it has its ups and downs, is fairly even. There are also some amazing sights and wicked single track, some quite technical but manageable.
The route starts at the Egerton Road Tesco, which you leave via the cycle path at the side of Egerton Road, swinging left under the A3. You then loop round to the left and follow the path parallel to the A3 until the left hand turn off at Wilderness Road.
From Wilderness Road, turn right into Queen Eleanors Road and follow this road to the T junction with the Farnham Road, A31.
Turn left onto the A31 and follow this till the first turn off on the left, Friars Gate. Across the road from this turn off, on the right of the A31, is a pathway. Take this pathway.
The pathway leads into a large grassy area. Follow any of the pathways to take you to the diagonally opposite corner. At this point follow the pathway out of the grassy area and turn left onto The Mount. Take the right turn into the cemetry (if this troubles you simply stay on The Mount past the cemetry and turn right into Beech Lane). At the back of the cemetry come out into Beech Lane and turn right.
Follow Beech Lane to the T junction with Guildown Road and turn right. Turn off Guildown Road at the first left, Chestnut Avenue. Follow this till the A3100 T junction. Turn right onto the A3100 and continue to the left hand turn into St Catherines Hill.
This takes you into an off road section where you veer over to the left down towards the river and take the footbridge over the river. Follow the path left and then as it swings right away from the river. Go straight across the grassy areas until you come out onto the A281.
Go straight across the A281 into Pilgrims Way and follow this till the road bends left. At this point veer off to the right following the small road and turn right into Shepherds Way. Take the small path to the left immediately after the house on the left.
Follow the path as it swings left and goes through the trees. After you swing left and come through a small clearing, take the path to the right across to open grassy area. Follow the path left and right and on till Halfpenny Lane. Turn right into Halfpenny Lane and follow this past the chalk symbol. Turn left into Blacksmith Lane and take the pathway on the left down to the river.
Follow the pathway along the river as it turns to the right. Take the pathway to the left through the trees and round to the left, taking you across an open area. Follow the zig - zag path of the path until you reach Guildford Lane.
Turn left onto Guildford Lane and follow the road as it becomes White Lane and One Tree Hill Road and on till the T junction. Turn left into Warren Road.
Follow Warren Road across the roundabout and right into Sydney Road. Follow Sydney Road up to the Epsom Road, A246, junction and head straight over into Waterden Road, A246. Follow the A246 to the A3100 crossroads and turn right onto the A3100. Follow the A3100 over the railway bridge and turn left into Nightingale Road.
Go along Nightingale Road until the turn in to Stoke Park, on the right. Go across Stoke Park, veering right and going across the A25. Follow the path to the left, running parallel with the A25, and swing right onto the A320 under the A3. Go straight over the roundabout and veer left onto the riverside pathway. Follow the pathway along the river and back under the A3. At the A25 turn right and take the pathway under the A3 once more into Woodridge Hill. Take the first left into Weston Road. Follow Weston Road and go across the footbridge over the A322 back into Weston Road.
Follow Weston Road as it forks left and goes across Beckingham Road and onto Southway. Turn left onto Southway and follow this as it sweeps round to the right. Take the last turn off on the left before the roundabout and head straight for the pathway through the trees. Go across the footbridge over the railway lines and follow the path back into the Tesco car park where you started.
Landmarks/Pubs for lunch/Sites to see?
There are a few landmarks just off the route, if you care to detour some exquisite places.
