A fairly testing route through Essex countryside. Uses mainly minor roads and country roads, though use of A414 required for a short 0.5 mile stretch. A climbing route up to Ongar, then undulating the remainder of the way. Passing through Essex villages, with stopping points for refreshments. End point is The Horse and Groom Pub in Galleywood, for lunch.
