Cycle Steps
1. This circular route can start from either Rochester or Strood Station and is a interesting mix of urban & semi rural cycling. Starting from Rochester station, turn right into High St. At traffic lights, continue across junction into Victoria St, the road does a sharp right hand turn into East Row and after 400 yards turns sharp left. Dont turn left but go straight on into Vine Lane. At the end of Vine Lane turn right into St. Margarets St. Continue past Rochester Castle on your left and turn left into Castle Hill, then right into the Esplanade. Turn left over Rochester Bridge and right into Canal Rd, then continue to the end until you arrive at a path. This takes you into Wingrove Rd. At the end turn right into Commissioners Rd, and take a left into Whitewall Rd. Follow this to a roundabout. Turn left into Anthonys Way. Continue for around half a mile until you pass Upnor Rd on the left, which is now a stopped up road and a path. Follow into Pasonage Lane. At the end cross Frinsbury Rd A228 into Bingham Rd, then right into Cooling Rd. At the end turn right and follow Brompton Farm Rd, B2108, until you arrive at traffic lights that cross the A226. Cross this road, continue onto A289 Rede Ct Rd. At the traffic lights go over the A2 Watling St, and join a cycle path on the southern side of the road, follow this for around 1 and half when the cycle path turns away from the A2 up and back on itself over the A2 on a bridge. After the bridge the road swings around to a minor road which follows the A2 Watling St. on the northern side. Follow this until you arrive at a junction around a mile on. Turn right into Brewers Lane, go over the A2 once again until you arrive at a roundabout. Turn left into Halfpence Lane. This road takes you to Cobham Village. This has some great pubs and village shop. Once through Cobham continue past Owletts (Nation Trust) on to Jeskyns Rd. On your right you will see a new country park called Jeskyns. It has a network of paths to explore, with fine views of the Dartford Bridge, The Kent Coutryside & the Eurostar trains wizzing people to Paris. Follow them and this will take you to the car park on top of a small hill. Go through the car park and turn right and then left after 50 yards into Church Rd. Cycle for around half a mile until Church Rd turns away from the Railway, as it does you will see a path to your right that goes over the Railway & the A2, follow this. Once over, follow this new path right until it arrives at a tarmac surface which was Church Rd before the A2 works began. This then passes a pub and turns sharp right where you arrive at a T junction. Turn right into Hever Ct Rd, then left into Miskin Way then continue on into Ifield Way , until you arrive at Valley Drive. Turn left. Then secon left into Scott Rd, Left into Livingstone Rd, then right into Wilberforce Way. Then second left into Hawkins Ave, Third right into Cedar Rd. follow down the hill into Kitchner Ave, then bear left into Sun Lane until you arrive at Echo Square. Cross this roundabout into Parrock Rd. Continue along until Wellington St. at The end of Wellington St. cross this busy road inton Milton Place and then straight on into Commerical Place into Gravesend Riverside. A cafe is available from Easter to September, and its a great place for a break for a drink and watching life on the River Thames. From here you follow National cycle route 1 to Lower Higham and on to Mockbeggar Farm. From here turn right onto B200, Lower Rocester Rd, Towards Strood. Go over the Wainscott By-pass A289. just after turn right into a new housing development, The road is called Hawkenbury Rise, follow this road until you arrive a T junction, turn left and continue to the very end of the road. you will see a path that takes you out of the Estate, turn left and you arrive at the junction of Brompton Farm Road & Cliffe Rd. (B2000) continue up Cliffe Road and over the hill. continue down and bear left into Goddington Rd, cross over the A228 Frinsbury Hill, into Grove Rd, and cross Station Rd, and into a subway under Strood Station. Continue out and follow the road until you arrive at Canal Rd, Turn right until you arrive at a set of traffic lights the go over Rochester Bridge and follow the A2 to Rochester Station.
