Cycle Steps
1. This is a flattish path along the Clydewalkway to begin with and later on a few climbs on quiet contry roads. Start at the Water sports centre and head south looking for the path near the River Clyde. This then goes under the A723 and up a few steps to the rear of some houses. after a small red sandstone cottage on your right, there is a path marker on your right. Take this and then follow the path with the River on your right. there are a few gates to pass through once you enter Dalziel Estate but not that awkward. The track disappears slightly near Barons Haugh Reserve, but you will see the gates to aim for. Once past this section you are back onto a clear path passing a couple of farms (Upper Carbarns). Follow this path that turns from dirt track to a concrete path you pass a large derelict mansion house (Cambusnethan House). After a pipe bridge over the River Clyde that will be on your right, head into the trees a bit over a small narrow footbridge and up a couple of steps onto a gravel track where you turn right. Follow this all the way until you meet the A71. Cross the road here onto the B7011 to Law, down the hill and immediately after the Bridge on the right hand side go through the gate down some steps that are cycleable into the trees. Follow the path and at the next junction take a right. Keep following the path and have the river to your right. You will then see a bridge over the Clyde whcih you will cross and through the archway onto the A72 at Rosebank. Turn right and head up on the road until the first junction on the left turning up Manse Brae. This is a bit of a climb out of teh valley floor. At the next junction turn right and then first left onto Candermill & Marlage Road. Pass over the M74 and at the next juction go straight through following Candermill Road until you meet Lockhart Street in Stonehouse. Turn left past all the small cottages and at the village Cross turn into Argyle Street. Stay on this road past the Memorial Park and go down a steep hill. Follow the road and at Low Kittymuir Farm take the right fork. Eventually you hit another steep downhill section the outskirts of Larkhall. There is a sign to Chatelherault Coutry Park (Avon Walkway) on a single track road. Stay on this through some metal railings. Don't turn down the steps on your right but stay on this road past Little Sunnyside Farm. Shorty after this farm at a left hand bend in the road, take the track on the right between the fields. Follow this into the Park and when you hit the path after a gate turn left. Follow the path all the way and then head over the bridge just after the remains of the Cadzow Castle and up to the Chatelherault Hunting Lodge. Go down the bank infront of eth Lodge and follow the red tarmac road eventually coming to a gate. Pass the Care home on your left, into modern housing to the main road. Go straight across this road and down the path to the right hand side of Smithycroft house. At the bottom of this path, there is a car park with a path leading off between trees in the right corner. Follow this new tarmac path right along the river, under the M74 and then under the A723 Hamilton to Motherwell Road following the path until the end where you turn right over a pedestrian bridge crossing the River Clyde to the finish.
