Cycle Steps
1. Flatish road route not too highly trafficked. Start point: Bramford Lane junction with Brooks Hall Road. Head out of town on Bramford Lane turning left into Kingston Road. Turn right onto Bramford Road and head out towards Bramford. Before arriving in Bramford village, at sharp left turn in road, turn right onto Paper Mill Lane. Follow this road until you get to a large roundabout where you take third exit into Claydon. Take first left onto Old Ipswich Road and follow this back into Ipswich. You will need to turn left at Whitton Church Lane. Take the next right into Shakespeare Road and the first left into Byron Road. Follow Byron Road as it takes a sharp right turn, taking the next road on the left (Defoe Road). At the end of Defoe Road turn right onto Henley Road and folow this to Valley Road where you turn left towards the hospital. The junction of Valley Road/Heath Road/Woodbridge Road is probably the trickiest on the route. Exiting from Valley Road you will need to cross into the outside lane to take second exit at roundabout (which is effectively a right turn). This will take you into Heath Road and you will pass the Hospital on your right. Keep heading straight as Heath Road turns into Bixley Road. At the bottom of Bixley Road, turn right onto Felixstowe Road to head back towards the town centre. This will bring you down to Fore Hamlet and through the one-way section by the docks, eventually presenting you at a roundabout. At the roundabout take the first exit towards Wherstead but immediately take second exit at next roundabout away from Wherstead. Follow Grafton Way past Cardinal Retail Park and into Commercial Road past the Royal Mail Sorting Office, staying in left hand lane heading straight on as right hand lane bares right. Head straight up West End Road to traffic lights by BMW garage. Go straight over these lights and into Yarmouth Road, then straight over next set at Bramford Road junction into Chevallier Street. Take next left into Bramford Road completing the ride at the first junction on the right which is Brooks Hall Road. The route includes Old Ipswich Road bus lane and many cycle lanes and cycle paths on busier roads. Not too many traffic lights to hold you up. Steady training run, takes in some picturesque countryside and parts of the newly redeveloped docks area.
