Cycle Steps
1. Out of Blandford town centre go pass Bryanston School and turn right towards Winterborne Stickland. This stretch is a long but steady climb initially. Traffic is not bad and is often quiet on the weekends. There is a short sharp climb out of Winterborne before the route drops down into Milton Abbas. Milton Abbas is a quaint thatched little village with a good pub on the left. It can get busy in the summer with tourists and walkers. Fair road conditions again and with light traffic. The stretch from Milton Abbas to Hilton again has some short sharp climbs and again only used by light vehicles. From Ansty Cross to Bulbarrow is a long (but steady) climb. It is worth it considering the views from the top of Bulbarrow Hill. There is a large lay by/view point at the Y Junction. From here take the right hand fork signposted Blandford. All down hill to Winterborne, just ensure you have good brakes as you can achieve some high speeds. From Winterborne its left back to Blandford along your initial route. To summarise the route has some steady climbs to get your lungs working, but also downhills and flats to recover. The road conditions are fair with not many pot holes. More importantly traffic is light with only the odd tractor and van. I have only encountered one or two HGVs but there are plenty of passing areas along route.
