Starting in the beautiful village of Potten End and heading off down Vicarage Road towards Berkhamsted Golf Course, it's normally very muddy at the point where you leave the road and enter the woods, and a bit up hill, follow the trail over the Golf fairways and towards the top of New Road, cross at the small car park and follow the well trodden trail, after about 150yds you will come to the main footpath which goes all the way to Bridgewater Monument, follow this past Coldharbour Field until you meet a small trackway, follow this to the right until you meet the main road, take a left and follow round past Ashridge Management College, go past the college and take a sharp right where the road hairpins left, follow this track down hill into the valley before climbing the valley side up to the top of the hill, stay on this crest and follow until you meet the old Roman Road, take a right down the road, (very steep) then maybe take in some refreshments at the Alford Arms at the bottom of the hill. Once refreshed, turn left to the main road, turn right, then about 30yds, follow the footpath, it is very muddy and very uphill, follow this until you reach the top and a footpath that turns right though some fields, follow this past the allotments until you reach the Plough pub... more refreshments!
