Cycle Steps
1. This is part 2 of the Stra'ven 50 mile cycle route passing nearly all the small towns surrounding Strathaven. It is certainly a wonderful cycle and away from most busy roads. If any of the steps are unclear have a look at the google map.
2. Head along Sandford's main road passing the multi-coloured houses, head right at the fork in the road. After passing the first side road left, take the next left, shortly after a bend to the right in the road.
3. Follow this road round to the left and carry along until a T-Junction, turn right here and then left and left again at the triangle in the road.
4. Follow the road round to the right and cycle straight, taking care to cross the busy A71. Afte you have crossed, cycle up the hill.
5. Keep going until you cross under the A71 and come into Stonehouse, turn left at the T-Junction, Cycle along the town centre and turn left just after the Post Office to head back under the A71.
6. After crossing the river, follow the road round to the right. Now there is quite a relaxing cycle for the next few miles. Just keeping heading straight or to the right until you arrive in Millheugh. You will know when you get here as there is a nice steep downhill.
7. At the bottom turn left, cycle to the T-Junction and then turn left. Cycle on this road until you arrive at Glassford.
8. In the centre of Glassford turn right at the roundabout heading towards Chapelton. 2 miles along you have to cross another busy road, take care as there have been quite a few accidents here.
9. Keep cycling until you arrive in Chapelton, there is a great view over the small village as you come down into the centre. Staying on the road you arrive in, exit Chapelton, cycling along a backroad that runs parallel to the A726.
10. Eventually you will arrive at a T-Junction to the busy road, luckily you won't be on long. Turn right heading down the hill, just after the lay by on your left take side road left, just infront of the house. This road is often closed for cars but bikes can still cycle along it.
11. Cycle along this road, miss the first side road left, but take the next shortly after passing through the run of houses. This road will take you up over the top of Whitelees forest. Currently they are logging, but there isn't much traffic on the road.
12. It is quite a steep climb again, once you have made it to the top give yourself a pat on the back you are nearly there.
13. Cycle down the other side staying on the same road until you arrive at the cross roads you passed earlier on. Turn right here and head back along the way you came ealier on.
