1. The is the best way (and less Painless way) to cycle this route, as, in the other direction there are steep hills to climb out of Dover Town, up to the Castle, which may not be everyone's cup of tea. The Route follows Regional Cycle route 16 and apart from Canterbury and Dover Urban confines, is mainly on Rural C and D roads and paths across fields. It takes in some of the best countryside Kent has to offer, with the villages of Bishopsbourne, Addisham, Aylesham, Eythorne, Whitfield and Guston all on-route. The terrain is up and down, with regular hills, but mostly short and sharp in nature, rather than long and slow. The hills however, do give you fantastic views across East Kent. You are further rewarded on a clear day, by getting a good view of the French Coast, just before you descend into Dover.
