Cycle Steps
1. This circular route follows the two longest and highest Ox-droves of Wiltshire. Once you have climbed up to the top of the first hill (very close to Winn Green) you travel towards Salisbury with fabulous views out towards the coast and the cathedral. It is mainly single track so a cross-country/mountain bike is advisable. There is a 400 metre section on the main Salisbury road, A354, before following a track down to the Chalke Valley, crossing the clear stream and climbs up again to the Salisbury Racecourse. Here return westward on the second Ox-drove which is broader and has views to the wooded northern hills. A steep drop at White Sheet Hill and cross the road to follow the lanes through Donhead St Andrew back to the car park at Charlton Sports Field.
Landmarks/Sites to see?
This isolated route has incredible views over Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire. There are no shops but you can detour in the Chalke Valley to get supplies near Coombe Bisset. The Foresters is the only place on this circuit to buy food, which is fabulous though a bit expensive. Indeed you could start and finish from here making the journeys end a delightful meal or drink.
