| 1. This is a road route, mainly on country roads, but with a small section of A and B road and some undulations.
From Broughton Astley head to Dunton Basset on the B581. Cross the A426 onto Station Road and go to Ashby Magna. Through Ashby, follow the Willoughby Road, to the left, and head towards Willoughby Waterleys. Just before Willoughby turn right towards Peatling Magna. At the next cross roads go straight over and head for Arnesby. At Arnesby, turn right onto the A5199, just after the Little India resturant. Go down the A5199, through the crossroads, and on until you reach the left hand turn for Mowsley. Take this and head through Mowsley, keeping left round Main Street and out onto the Saddington Road. When you reach the bottom of the hill, with the reservoir on your right, there is a single track road to the right, which you need to take to Gumley. Go through Gumley and down the hill, but watch out for the right hand turn that you need to take about 200m's down the hill off Main Street. Follow Bunkers Hill to the next crossroads and turn right. Take the next right to Laughton. When you reach the village go left back to Mowsley along Laughton Lane. From Mowsley once again head for Saddington, but this time go into Saddington. Head left into Shearsby Road and heading back towards the A5199 and Shearsby. Take care when crossing the A5199 and head for Bruntingthorpe. Turn left, into Bruntingthorpe Road, before you enter the village, following the sign for Peatling Parva. Turn right into Peatling and go straight up the hill on the Ashby Road to Ashby Magna. When you reach Ashby Magna, go left into Old Forge Road, heading for Dunton Basset. You now re-trace the initial part of the journey in reverse, heading over the A426 and taking the B581 back to Broughton Astley.
It took me just over 2 hours on a very windy day. Also, with the figure eight and loop configuration, there is a chance to vary your distance and route to match the time available. |
