1. This is a road route, where the journey out is mainly country roads and the return journy is mainly A607, that is mainly undulating, but with the major climbs being on the return leg. The route initially heads out towards Grantham on the country lanes to Ratcliffe on the Wreake. It continues through country lanes, with one small section of A6006, and takes in some of Leicestershire's lovely scenery, and lots of nice little villages, on quiet roads with very little traffic. Towards the end of the outward run you pick up the A607 into the centre of Grantham. The route returns on the A607, initially retracing the final part of the outward leg. Although the A607 is a busy single lane carriageway, the drivers gave me lots of room, despite their speed. There are a couple of morale breaking hills, one just before Waltham on the Wolds and the other not long after leaving Harlaxton. You come back through Melton Mowbray and head on out back towards Leicester. My iPod app had the route measured at 88km and I was really tired at the end. I would well recommend it but you need to be in decent shape.
