Cycle Steps
1. By train from West Yorkshire. Generally follows the Pennine Bridleway so some of the surfaces have been improved and offer a greeat surface to cycle on and is well waymarked. Some is on minor roads which are generally quiet. The major climb is on both road and on unimproved track. The descent from the top is long and straight on an unsealed surface with some rocks oin the ruts. Care reauired but with good balance a good speed can be gained. Just watch out for walkers...this is a popular walking area...Pennine way, Dales way and Pennine Bridleway. Actualy shoulkd go through Selside and not up the track before...over the fields is marked as footpath so NO GO WITH A BIKE. The track over Sulber is good. limestone is exposed and is slippy in the wet, but otherwise is a good surface. There is a nasty drop when the lane is gained where idicated. It is steep, but not insurmountable...it is not long and could be walked for the less courageous. The remainder of the route is generally on good made surfaces, either bridleway or minor road. Enjoy Buck Haw Brow...it makes the last 2 miles to Settle a doddle. The morning train gets to Dent around 11-00, and the afternoon train back from Settle leaves around 15-30, so don't hang about. There may not be time for Lunch at the Ribblehead Inn. The "4th Peak" tea van at the road turining to Settle does BRILL bacon butties however and good tea.
