Cycle Steps
1. Take the long but gentle climb from Brighton all the way to the top of the South Downs. A 10% winding downhill is the reward into Ditchling. You then follow the B2116 to Hassocks and Hurstpierpoint along a great road with some beautiful houses along the way. Not too many cars (although it was 7.30/8 on a Sat morning!) past Alborne and all the way to the A281. Turn right onto a fairly main road for a short time then left on the B2116 to Partridge Green, through the village then turn left when you meet the B2135 (Horsham Road). Left at the end and briefly onto the |Steyning By Pass, first right (filter lane) to Steyning. Pass through village then join the By Pass (A283) again until it joins Shoreham Road (still the A283) and then follow the River Adur, alongside this road, all the way to Shoreham By Sea. (Giant bike shop on your right in the Ropetackle Centre). Turn left onto the high street (another bike shop on left here) then follow the Brighton Road all the way along the seafront until you arrive back in Hove/Brighton. Ride distance 57km. Took me 2hrs including three stops to get my bearings. I was averaging 26kmh (16.2mph). There is a total of 411m (1349ft) of elevation gain with a maximum elevation of 228m (748 ft) which is reached by the initial climb out of Brighton up to Ditchling Beacon.
