Cycle Steps
1. Started at the top of Cowdenbeath High Street,(North End), at the Kelty Junction round about at the junction bar turn right into Lumphinnans, cycle straight through into Lochgelly and turn left as the road through Lochgelly goes. We tried on the footpaths but it was actually easier on the road as there were pedestrians (obviously) and loads of wheelie bins to dodge in and out and junctions where the kerb wasn't always lowered, but no problems. When you turn left past the High School in Lochgelly past the High School and through Glencraig this is where the path ends so you HAVE to go on the road although there is a path on the opposite side you could cross over and use if you are with very young children, not busy with padestrians and no wheelie bins! Just past Glencraig you can then go on the pavement again if you wish ~(we didn't) the slight uphill and to the left at the junction before Crosshill turn left. You can either follow the road to the other end of Lochore but we came on the pavement to the off road walking / cycle path and followed it along to the loch passing the boat area. Stopped off at our usual spot at the visitor centre to get a drink, take pics, check air etc then carried on round the loch to the left, past the woodland walk marked on the right. Came to a tarmacced area where there's parking for cyclists and walkers. Pass this then turn to the right and for a good while just smooth tarmac along a couple of miles then you come onto the A909 where you turn right up towards Kinross and more or less just a straight road. Again can be quite busy but if I didn't trust it would not take my youngest and he was fine on it and it was T in the Park Sunday when we did it! Pass through Glenfarg, ad a couple of other small villages, a straight road basicly into Kinross. Right up the High Street and on the corner David Sands to refuel!! Since it was a nice day we decided to go all the way round Loch Leven so crossed the road, walked down the way we'd came until you come to the CHAS shop and again a short path to the left then gravel path for Loch Leven! Sometimes you were right at the loch side and cometimes it seemed like you were in the middle of a feild but you're on the right track. Not far in the middle of a field you turn right and come to a gate which you are permitted to pass as long as it's closed at the back of you (country code and all that) and you just really follow the path. No hills or anything, a couple of benches we stopped for a drink. Still following the path for a good while we came to a very steep hill and what seemed a dead end with stairs. We carried the bikes up the stairs and came out at the RSPB. We asked how to get back onto the loch but apparently you can't as they're working on it to put more path in so we had to come along a B road. Can't remember what one sorry as I don't drive, but it was easy and not too busy. Then at the end of it came to a sign, Kinross to the right and Cowdenbeath left. We took the Cowdenbeath turn for the A909 and headed back as we already passed this road to Scotlandwell on the way up to Kinross. Not a hard cycle but tiring for young children however they did enjoy.
