Cycle Steps
From Seaham head up the A1287 through Ryhope, then along Ryhope Road, 1018, into Sunderland. Circumnavigate the town centre and head across Wearmouth Bridge. Head along the coast, on the A183, through Witburn and on into South Shields (optionally stopping for an ice cream and coffee).
Pass the funfair to your right and head inland, on the A183. Follow this past the town hall and following signs for the college. Once past the college follow your nose, and the A1018, through Cleadon an back to the Wearmouth Bridge. Retrace your steps through the city centre, but the time, rather then heading through Grangetown, head out on the Durham Road, A690, all the way to Herrington.
Head left at the Herrington roundabout onto the B1286 and follow this right at the next roundabout. Continue on the B1286 past Morrisons and on until you reach Tunstall.
Drop down through Ryhope village and past Cherry Knowle Hospital. Follow the A19 feeder, Stockton Road, A1018, and turn off onto the B1285 towards Seaham. Either drop down Byrons Walk or follow Station Road, B1404, and Tempest Road, B1287, back to the coast and start point.
Landmarks/Pubs for lunch/Sites to see?
Minchellas (sp) ice cream parlour is well worth a stop. You also pass the Stadium of Light, Sunderland.
