| This is a road route, mainly on country roads, but with some fairly busy A and B roads around the built up areas, that is fairly hilly, with noticable (but fairly short) hills out of Lichfield into Stonnal and 'Cardiac Hill' within the boundaries of Sutton Park towards the end of the ride. Follow the B4148 north through Sutton Coldfield to the A53 crossroads. At the crossroads, go staright across onto Weeford Road, heading towards Roughley. Follow the road straight across the B4151 crossroads, right at the roundabout in Roghley and on till the T junction by the M6 Toll Road. At the junction, turn right onto Camp Road, go under the M6 Toll Road and the A38, and on to the T junction. At the junction, turn left onto London Road and follow this parallel to the A38 to the first turn off on the right. Turn right and take the road that forks to the left, Brockhurst Lane (the fork on the right leads to Canwell Hall), heading towards Hints. Follow the road to the T junction. At the junction, turn left onto School Lane, and follow this to the T junction. At the junction, turn left onto Rock Hill, heading towards Weeford. Follow the road to the crossroads, where you have the right of way, and turn right onto Flats Lane, heading towards Whittington Barracks. Follow the road over the A5, and on till the A51 T junction. At the junction turn left onto the A51, then first right off again, onto Common Lane, heading towards Whittington. Follow this road straight through Whittington and out on Barton Road, heading towards Whittington Hurst. Follow the road under the railway bridge, on past the turn offs for Whittington Hurst, and on till the T junction. At the junction, turn left onto Fine Lane and the take the first right, taking you up past Lichfield Police Station to a T junction. At the junction turn right onto Roddige Lane and go to the T junction. At the junction turn left and head up to the A513 roundabout. At the roundabout, turn left onto the A513, heading towards Alrewas. Follow the A513 straight across the A38 slip road roundabout, over the A38 and straight through the second slip road roundabout. Continue on the A513 to the Orgreave crossroads, where the A513 has right of way. At the crossroads, turn left, off the A513 and heading towards Lichfield. Follow this road as it enters Lichfield on Netherstowe Lane and goes to the A5192 T junction. At the junction, turn left onto Eastern Avenue, A5192, and follow this to the A5127 roundabout. At the roundabout, turn right onto Trent Valley Road, A5127, and follow this to the A416 roundabout. At this roundabout, turn right onto The Friary, A416, and follow this to the A51 roundabout, with the hotel in the middle of it. At the roundabout, take the first turn off, staying on Friary Road, A 416. Follow the A416 as it turns left and goes straight across a mini and large roundabout. Take the first turn off on the left, onto a single track lane. Follow this lane till it turns sharp right, runs parallel with the railway line and swings right and left to a T junction. At the junction, turn left onto Fosseway Lane and follow this to the T junction. At the junction, turn right onto Clay Pit Lane, heading towards Wall. Follow this road past the turn offs for Wall and on under the A5 and M6 Toll Roads. Continue on through Chesterfield, and on towards Shenfield, till you get to the T junction. At the junction turn left onto Lynn Lane and follow this over the railway bridge in Shenfield. Immediately after the bridge take the first turn off on the right, onto New Road. Follow this road till you pass St John the Baptist Church of England Church, on your left. Take the first turn off on the right after the church, turning onto Holly Hill Road. Follow this to the T junction, and turn left onto Holly Hill Lane. Follow this over the railway bridge and on till the T junction. At the junction, turn right onto Footherley Lane, heading towards Stonnal, and follow this as it bends left. Continue on, passing the first turn off with a triangular grass island, and continue until the next turn off with a triangular grass island. At this point, turn left onto Graveley Lane, heading towards Aldridge. Follow the road straight across the A452 crossroads, and on till the T junction in Aldridge. At the junction, turn left onto Walsall Wood Road, and follow this till the first turn off on the left. Turn left onto Hobbs Hole Lane and follow this past the golf course and on till the A452 T junction. At the junction, turn left onto Chester Road, A452, and follow this to the Footherley turn off to the right, opposite the buildings with all the car parking slots. Turn right onto Wood Lane and follow this till it bends sharp left. Take the first turn off on the right onto Forge Lane. Follow this road through the trees, through a sharp left and soft hairpin right combination of bends and along some good straights past the golf course, and on till the A454 T junction at Little Aston. At the junction, go straight across the A454 onto Roman Road, and follow this to the B4151 roundabout at Streetly. At the roundabout take the third exit onto Thornhill Road, B4138, and follow this over the railway bridge to the first turn off on the left. Take the turn off into Sutton Park. Follow the road past the golf course, on your right, and at the fork, with the tree in the middle of the grassy triangle, go right. Follow the road along the edge of the tree to the crossroads, then turn left taking you through the trees. Continue on till you pass the swimming pool on your right, then swing left where there is another triangular grassy area with three trees on it. Cycle away from the triangle and take the first right, taking you through the trees, then right across the railway bridge. Follow this road till the first turn off to the left, just before you reach a T junction. Turn left staying in the trees and sweep around to the right until you get to the A454 T junction. At the junction, go straight across the A454 onto Park Drive, and follow this to the B4151 T junction. Turn right onto Bellwell Lane, B4151, and follow this across the railway bridge to the A5127, oval shaped roundabout in Mere Green. At the roundabout, go straight across onto Mere Green Road, still B4151. Follow the B4151 as it sweeps right, turns sharp left and becomes Little Sutton Road. It then bends right at the first crossroads, then right again, then bends left. At this point, turn off right, off the B4151, but staying on Little Sutton Road. Follow the road to the T junction. At the junction, turn right onto Weeford Road, and retrace the route back over the A453 crossroads onto Whitehouse Common Road, B4148, and back to the start point. |
