Buckled front wheel after unexpected endo

After an unexpected endo dismount on a canal path left the bike with wavy wobbly front rim (and me with a 5ft dive into 1ft of stinky city sewer canal water and gashed elbow) and it having been 25 yr or so since I sorted a similar Pringle shaped wheel I started looking for advice and found http://www.kenkifer.com/bikepages/skills/spokes.htm A quick trip to Halfords and £4.99 later for a 3-size spoke key, 60 minutes or so following the instructions on the site and da-dah an almost (+/- 1mm) perfectly round and true wheel. Final tweaks were achieved using the brakes and listening for high spot scrapes on the blocks until the rim ran quiet. I don't know how much the lcs would have charged but I feel comfortable now tackling similar problems myself. At £4.99 for the tool - can't complain & it's small enough to carry in tool pouch :-) The elbow is going to take longer to heal with a 3cm scar :-( |

Maybe I'll start with road tires on my Marin Bobcat & see how it goes :-) |
