Getting GPX data from Google Maps Routes

Hi

just got myself a mapping GPS (Garmin GPSMap62s) and whilst the unit seems very good, the computer software for the Mac is highly problematic. Often crashes, only loads up the OS maps about one time in three. So I have been seeking a better way to plot a route which can be saved in GPX format for uploading back to the GPS. A web search reveals quite a few options, but the best I have found in a week of searching is the route tool built into this site. It "snaps" to the roads between the way points.

Any feedback on the above points would be welcome, but my question at this point is - Is there a awy to use the software behind the site route planner to make up GPX routes for my own use? This would enable me to use the GPS to direct me around the route, and if I find it is as good as I hoped, then I could publish it.

I use GMapToGPX, it's a really useful tool. Make a route on google maps and it can extract the data. Copy and paste all the data in to notepad and save it with .gpx at the end.

Thanks! I have tried bikeroutetoaster and is all I was hoping for. I especially like being able to use the open map data which allows you to see and route to Sustrans paths.

Many thanks guys - problem solved!
