Hello!

I'm planning a cycling trip to Bergerac and wanted any advice on routes. I'll be getting into Paris on train, then will probably have a to get another train a little of the way as I have 5 days to get there.

in anyone has done a similar route let me know, would love to hear your experience. Thanks!

Hello Pollylop
I would google map Paris 2 Bergerac and click bike option it reads 374 miles. Which is 75 miles a day. You know what your capable of doing a day so times your daily by days and move the Paris start point down to cities nearer your finish point. The thing to remember in France is the higher the road number the more traffic. Keep on D roads and ride south.
75 a day Paris
50 a day Orleans
40 a day Tours

Riding in France anywhere is great the roads are very quiet. The people prefer you to speak French even if its rubbish which shows them at least your trying. In most towns there are bakers, chemists and barbers. The bigger towns have good supermarkets with amazing fresh foods and bread.
Are you camping? A lot of towns have municipal camp sites which a very cheap but clean. And there are private sites all over about £10 a night per tent. I plan my routes around food so I google map the towns along my route looking for supermarkets and camp sites and then mark them on my map. My wife and I are some of the few bikepackers who put weight on when touring and Im not joking.
We also use merino wool jerseys which can be worn for 3 weeks and stay clean and not smell. Buy our socks/underwear from supermarkets and throw away when minging and keep everything to an absolute minimum. When your climbing some big hill you will wonder at the wisdom of bringing the family bible. Get your hair cut short to stop that just off the couch look in the morning and the dreaded helmet hair. If you have more than 2 bags on the bike you have too much gear. Don't listen to the "what if the chain breaks" what if the tyres explode" "what if your 2 bottles fall off the bike and you die of thirst" brigade. Make sure your bikes in good nick and you know how to fix a puncture and off you go.
