| Hi there.
Firstly, as it is such a long ride and you will be on and off your bike, go for MTBs (Moutain Bike shoes) rather than Road shoes - this simply means that there is a tread at the bottom of the shoe which will allow you to walk in them. Road shoes are great for racing, but not for long touring rides, as they are shaped for racing and smooth on the underside.
I would recommend you go for SPD cleats, that will ft into any Shimano or specialised MTB shoe. I mention these because they are well priced and good quality. A decent pair of cycling shoes will last years. I personally recommend single, rather tahn multi- release as tehy are more stable.you can adjust the 'tightness' as you become more confident/adept at getting in and out on the move.
IF you are cycling in cooler weather or it is likely to rain, get over-shoes (Gators) a kind of rubber sock that protects the shoe and keep your feet toasty and dry.
there is another cleat system called LOOK, but i wouldnt recommend them to beginners - as they are less easy to clip in and out of. You will fall off still clipped in a couple of times, but its all part of the journey!!!
best of luck
