Essex - searching for cycle routes that avoids roads.

Joined: 24 Jun 2010 Posts: 2 Bike: | Hi There, I'm really starting to get into cycling but I really hate going on roads due to too many incompetent drivers who I feel are just too dangerous to cyclists (boy-racers seeming to be my biggest annoyance). I live in Barleylands but am looking for any long(ish) cycle routes that don't involve roads in Essex. The main one that I have been doing is a route from Hadleigh that goes round the back of the castle, then eventually goes onto a path that goes to Old Leigh (no roads which is lovely and total escapism). I'd love to find any similar types of routes around Chelmsford, Boreham, Billericay, etc, and I'm happy to rough it to a certain degree (there are some lovely routes aroun the back of Barleylands but are just to overgrown to cycle in parts unfortunately).
