Joined: 01 Apr 2012 Posts: 1 Bike:	Hi, We (that being me & my 2 lads aged 10 & 15) are coming down in a few weeks to do the British Heart Foundation charity ride which I believe goes up Portsdown Hill (Havent towards Fareham). Could anyone give any clues or pre-warnings about the hill? I would say we have a fair ability but bearing in mind the youngest is only 10, am I asking to much to expect him to cope with? (on a good day we generally can cover 15-20 miles with a few small inclines). Your local knowledge appreciated.

Portsdown Hill http://app.strava.com/segments/736346 The hardest part is the initial half mile or so up and over the bridge over the A3(M), once you have cleared this part it's a relativity steady climb of about 3%. If you take the first 3/4 of mile realtively slowly in an easy gear the rest of the hill isn't too bad. There is a pavement along most of the uphill section (until you get to the London Road A3) so it would be safe to walk up if it's too much. Hi,

The BHF ride last year did go up Portsdown Hill and I believe that it is the same route this year.

I can't really help in saying whether your 10 year old will be able to cope with it or not.
