Route from Heckmondwike to Leeds??

Joined: 28 Feb 2009 Posts: 8 Bike: | Hi I am looking for a safe communter route from Heckmondwike to Leeds. I am really uncomfortable riding on roads and not sure how to get over that fear. There is a really good cycle path through Heckmondwike but it goes in completely the wrong direction, and there is a good tow path through Leeds but again, the wrong direction. At the moment I am driving to the tow path and cycling along it to Leeds, but this is not reducing my driving distance. I will need to carry on driving part of the route for some time as I work on fitness. Thanks |

Joined: 08 May 2009 Posts: 1 Bike: | Hello, I've had the same issue trying to commute from Cleckheaton into Leeds. Unfortunately there is no quiet or non road route to take. My suggestion would be cycle along the Spen Valley Greenway into Cleckheaton, up Cliffe Lane to the Oxford Road and then along that to join the A58 (which although an A route doesn't get too busy). You can join up with the cycle route through Leeds near the Canal. Steve |

Depending where in Hecky you are and what part of leeds you,re getting to you might try going via Batley and Tingley and skirt via White Rose Shopping centre. I used to go Brighouse, Cleckheaton , Birkenshaw then Tong village ...... If you'd like any info or help i'm willing to supply a contact number. Mick |
