Route help

I ride a mountain bike, live in Heaton Moor, Stockport and work at Hope Hospital in Eccles. At the moment my fitness level is zero so please be gentle with me! Cheers. |

Joined: 27 Jul 2008 Posts: 1 Bike: | Hi - I've just finished working at Hope Hospital and used to cycle from Manchester City Centre to Hope in around 30mins on a folder. If you start from the back of Granada Studios (Water Street) and go over Princes Bridge, you'll come out at a useful cycle route which will give you a straight run all along Liverpool Street into Tootal Drive and Hope is just around the corner. Sorry, I can't be any help as to your route from Stockport, but I would advise you to build up your fitness before you start to do it every day. Can you take your bike out for half an hour after work, just to get used to it? When you think you're ready, I suggest you do a "dummy run" on a non-work day to get an idea of the route and time you'll need. Once there, Hope has a bike lock-up and shower rooms for cyclists. Ask at the car parking office for the code to get in (obviously I'm not going to post it here!). Good luck - it's a great way to get to work and you'll arrive feeling ready for anything. |

Joined: 09 Jan 2010 Posts: 90 Bike: My Profile | Hi Cheryl,from the Traff Centre I would follow Barton Dock Road in the direction of Stretford, once at Stretford I would follow Edge Ln in the direction of Chorlton, be sure to keep right at the fork and head along Barlow Moor Road, at Chorlton centre, turn right staying on Barlow Moor Road and keep on this road all the way to Didsbury Village,at the Village turn right on to Wilmslow Road and stay on this road to Parrs Wood, at Parrs Wood remain on Wilmslow Road crossing over the A34 (duel carrageway)keep the cinima on your left and fork left, still Wilmslow Road but soon changes to Manchester Road, this takes you past The Alex Hospital and onto Cheadle Village Center. Have a safe trip. |
