Where could I cycle that is about 50 miles away from Chippenham, Wiltshire?

Joined: 27 Mar 2009 Posts: 1 Bike: | I am planning a 2 day cycle trip with a friend, about 50 miles there, then stay overnight in a B&B or youth hostel, then about 50 miles back the next day. Where are some interesting places to cycle to and spend an evening that are about 50 miles from Chippenham, Wiltshire? Perhaps places like Cheddar Gorge or Weston Super Mare Thanks! Josh |

Joined: 01 Apr 2009 Posts: 5 Bike: My Profile | Josh. I would head for Bradford-on-avon on B roads. How about Brassknocker Hill just off A36 below Monkton Combe for a test. Then Midsomer Norton and up onto the Mendips. The ride down thro Cheddar Gorge is great but careful at the bottom as there is always traffic and people wandering into the roads. Then Wedmore,Mark and finish for the day near Highbridge. Burnham-on-sea has plenty of b & b's or try Laburnam House Lodge @ West Huntspill,quite reasonable and has a swimming pool to relax in. If not this try going east from Chippenham towards Marlborough Downs and Lambourn Downs some beautiful scenery,great B roads and some challenging climbs but not too bad. Thats my neck of the woods and I would thoroughly recommend the area. Chris. |
