I have my old mountain bike and have just put some tyres on with a bit less grip so my rolling traction aint to bad, I have plotted out some routes and am only going to start by covering around 3 miles at a steady pace. I will do this for about a week then gradually build up my distance as I am not attempting to go for speed until a long way down the line. The main goal is calories and weight loss. |

I have them on a fairly lose setting so I can unclip with ease and I check the bolts after about 30 mins if I have had to unclip several times due to traffic, I am still around the 20st mark but am getting fitter by the day. |

I enjoy myself and have just got an old saracen 7005 frame off a friend and will do that up on a budget and have just got a stem and hanlebars from chain reaction for 20 quid in the clearance section. So what if my budget does not streach to thousands thats life and as long as I enjoy it with others who think the same then thats just the way I like it. I did my 3 miles into work tonight and will ride home in the sunshine at 8am knowing that when I hit the bank on Durham road I can finally get up it without hitting the granny ring and after a sleep get up and enjoy a good ride to south shields and back covering the 20 odd miles at a steady pace and take in the views and think at the end of the day I enjoyed that and look forward to my next ride out. |

I must admit I do like my xmas present though got a Chris Boardman Team road bike! Well chuffed it looks beautiful especially at the welds, they have smoothed them right out to mimic carbon frame at a fraction of the cost and I am sure their is some minimal difference in drag too hope you enjoyed your night at work set to be a good day tomorrow down south but we are dues snow over the weekend :( |

I also eat better plus joined a gym . I would highly recommend you get a hybrid as that will make it a pleasureable event plus you will enjoy doing longer and longer rides. I bought a trek off ebay cheap as it was in a state and did it up plus have a full carbon race bike too . sometbing i learnt the hardway was hydration additives they help enormously rather than expensive sports drinks i use SIS stops you getting that drained feeling. |

Joined: 20 Feb 2012 Posts: 28 Bike: My Profile | Hi dont worry I have not forgot about posting, I have been on night shift for some time and am still doing my 3 miles to work and back,I am now down to 19st 9lbs so its coming off slowly but surely, I have a friend would is adding bits to a saracen frame for me which should cut the cost down a bit. The diet is still up and down but I am cutting the junk out on a night shift opting for more healthy food which is helping and drinking water whenever I get a hunger pang. The clip in pedals are still working well and I have bought some wider bars and some old click shifters instead of the twist shifters the bike came with many moons ago. |

I was using them on and off rad so prob not designed for really heavy use. heads up just in case you have a simillar problem. |

Have hit the 50 miles in a day just still at a steady plod. Even one day stopping with a guy who was riding along having a pint then setting off homeward bound. I love it great on cycletracks with radio playing in one ear. The weather have the council never heard of gritting cycle paths, doing a torvill and dean on a bike is canny hard. I changed to my normal peadals for the winter incase of sudden de busses in slippy condions and will go to clip ins next year. |
