hello all
I have just started cycling again after many many years, and just bought a carrera subway one, with the view to getting fitter and to loose a load of weight, and i don't have any health issues (well i don't think so).I am almost 59 now and weighed myself a couple of weeks ago and the scales read 19st12ib and with this in mind and the fact that i drive all day (doing a 4day on 4day off shift system)and turned into a couch potato at home, the time has come to do something about it before i meet my maker earlier than i want to.
So would any one have any advice on how far to cycle in a session (i have been out twice so far and each one i managed 17 mile mainly on the canal towpaths),and also on what types of foods to eat,i am trying to eliminate the fatty stuff and also on the size of my portions but will be having a once weekly chinese as a treat. (Hopefully)
Thanks for reading my first post any advice will be really helpful, and by BTW a really good Forum.
regards midland tone

As a new cyclist, start with short distances, gradually increasing mileage as your stamina improves. Pair cycling with calorie-dense Best smoothies for weight gain. Blend bananas, oats, peanut butter, protein powder, and whole milk for a nutritious boost. Smoothies offer easy digestion and fuel muscles, enhancing endurance and recovery for longer rides.

My Profile
During the Ride: For rides longer than 1 hour, carry snacks like energy bars, gels, or bananas to maintain energy levels.
Post-Ride Recovery: Consume a combination of protein and carbohydrates after your ride to aid recovery. Foods like smoothies, sandwiches, or protein shakes are great choices. https://www.forgetmenotgardentransformations.co.uk/

Hi Midland Tone, great to see you getting back into cycling Incredibox ! I'm in a similar situation - trying to get fitter and lose a bit of weight. I've been cycling around 10-15 miles a session for a few weeks now and I'm getting stronger. Don't rush it! Gradually increasing your mileage will help you build up your endurance without risking injury. I usually ride 3 times a week and try to make it an enjoyable experience, rather than a workout. As for food, I focus on smaller portions, but I don't deprive myself. I like to indulge a little (like your weekly Chinese takeout) as long as I stay sane for the rest of the week. You can do this - just take it one ride at a time and don't be too hard on yourself!
