He loves his biking and its all he talks about. Me and a friend from work would like to do a charity ride for him but between us we don't know any routes or challenges that we could do ourselves and we were looking for some pointers or ideas for what we could do. We are fairly fit so would like a challenge with a bit of credibility to it which will also help us raise as much money as possible. Thanks in advnace Craig |

Have you thought ( if you have heard of it ) of doing the old pilgrims route from France to Spain ( route de St Jaques de Compostelle ) ? The route is about 800klms long on mostly tracks, with hostels ( refuges ) all along the route who charge between 6 and 12 euros per night for an evening meal/ bed and breakfast . I did the route at the age of 66 ( and not a keen cyclist ) in 13 days ..... is this the sort of thing you envisage? Just giving you something to think about and this route has lots of cred and a certificate at the end of the pilgrimage !! |

I have actually organised my own charity ride from John O Groats to Lands End. It takes a fair bit of planning you have to decide first where you want to ride from and to its then a case of routes ,timings ,dates ,back up crew, sponsors. The routes can found on CTC web sites or ask others who have done the route you want for advice. Once you get everything planned and sorted and the ride looks as though it will go ahead, then get some publicity by way of local radio, web and any thing that you think will raise the profile. If you plan everything it will work out its not just a case of say we are going to ride from here to here and thats it,you will have to do a lot of ground work first. Also if you have over a certain number in your ride then you you have to be very carefulwith all sorts of red tape, limit the team to no more than 10 riders your back up crew can be as many as you need but we had 6 riders four back up crew we used to vans those were sponsored by my employer that save a massive ammount of money Hope this helps. Good luck |
