Ambitious Cycling Route Planned - The Battles for France in WW2

Joined: 27 Oct 2009 Posts: 1 Bike: | Hi, Me and four friends, all twentysomethings, are planning a cycling tour of France. We're all keen amateur historians of WW2 thus we thought it would be a great idea to merge our two passions; we intend to cycle from the Normandy beaches through the great historical battle sites of France. We all live in London, England therefore i thought Omaha Beach would be the best place to start and then on to Cherbourg. The only real information I have to go on is provided by google maps, and i suspect this is not going to be as reliable as the knowledge many of you will have of the area. My question is this - Can we do this? Is it feasible? Any advice, suggestions or ideas I would find extremely helpful as I am yet to map a specific route. We plan to depart in early January and consider Brecourt, Carentan, Caen and Villers-Bocage as must see sites. Thanks in advance, Chris. |
