Annoying rubbing noise when I ride - advice needed!

Tonight when I was out, maybe an hour into the ride, I noticed all of a sudden that I was getting an intermittent rubbing noise from the back wheel. I thought this was likely from the brake pad, so stopped and ran the back wheel through, but nothing! The noise appeared when I was in the saddle and pedalling, and yet disappeared when out of the saddle and not pedalling (as if my weight on the saddle was having an effect on the brake pad position). This wasn't a constant problem but was definitely noticeable (and really annoying). Also, I began to hear some brake pad rubbing from the front wheel when I went over a bump early in the ride, almost as if the wheel moved. However this actually resolved itself when I went over another bump 30 seconds later. Like I say I'm completely new to this, so maybe this is nothing to be concerned about. Anyone have any suggestions on what I might do/what this could be? Its a new bike with new brakes, all bolts are done tightly etc. Any help would be fantastic, Thanks guys, Gav |

What brakes / bike do you have? otherwise it may just be a case of your bike just settling in...if its brand new it will take a few rides for everything to settle (also why it is a good idea to check all bolts etc after a few ride as things - most shops should offer a free service after the first 6/8 weeks). Don't think there's anything physically wrong with it. Had it out for a ride tonight and the problem seems to have went. Hopefully it's just the fact that it's new. I'll check everythins tight and stable though. Getting a free service in a few weeks so if there's anything serious they'll find it. Cheers Rob. Gav |
