Can anyone recommend the best road bike?

Joined: 08 Oct 2012 Posts: 4 Bike: My Profile | Hi, I have been a keen cyclist for most of my life and I currently ride a Ridgeback Velocity hybrid. It is a decent bike but I am keen to upgrade to a road bike for the first time. I have a maximum budget of £1200, would anyone be able to recommend anything? Ideally I am looking for a lightweight road bike, preferrably with shimano gears (I think these are the best) but I am not really that clued up on spec so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
