Can you cycle with a broken spoke?

Checked and a spoke has gone. problem is that I can't get it to the LBS before the weekend and I rely on it to get to work at the moment. Not rubbing too much on the brake but not sure whether it'll do any more damage if I keep riding it. |

I'm told that if you don't do this the wheel very quickly loses it's shape to the point of no repair. I had the same thing happen and I didn't disconnect the brake soon enough, the wheel went egg-shaped!! |
