At the weekend I had porridge before I left nd then had two Snickers Bars and two bottles of Lucozade Sport during the ride. I'm sure this isn't the way to go - I don't want to overeat and cancel out any potential weight loss. At the same time, I don't want to leave myself short. Any advise, particularly on Carbs vs Protein, would be much appreciated. Cheers, Paul. |

Just eat a mix of whatever you want, porridge or cereals or whatever, and take bananas and stuff with you instead of snickers if you're trying to lose weight. I eat about 1500-1800 cals a day and cycle 30 miles a day using up about 1000 and I still lose 2-3lb a week. |

A good mix of carbs, particularly wheat, oats and grains, are preferred over bread/croissants, chocolate bars and the odd cup of coffee. Try smoothies (freeze them the night before so that it is conserved during your ride), an energy drink, one or two granola bars/flapjacks, and perhaps a bean stew or fallafell wraps, depending on your fancy. These would not only fuel you for longer, but would help you time your ride accordingly. |
