Albeit that they are the proffesionals, i've seen top cyclists using gels and things which give you a major boost of energy. I was wondering if anyone had any reccomendations for enrgy stuuf that you could buy from sport shops. I'm looking at doing a few sponsored charity events to push myself and raise money so i dont want to fall short! Cheers guys Jim |

Should have it in your Local bike shop. Any ride less than, say, 2 hours - forget it. As long as you ate sensibly at some point in the previous day, and have some water - you are good to go. over that, by all means, get stuck in. always try before you ride, though. The gels and drinks disagree with some. avoid the sugary stuff. get the complex carbohydrates. |

Whereas the complex carbs are more likely to last longer and are more gradual bursts of energy but it takes longer for your body to absorb. Therefore I'd recommend more complex but also some simple carb supplements too. The problem is, if you let your body drain too low of energy it's almost impossible to regain energy until you stop and rest. So really you need to top up on both types of energy before you feel the need to. Same with water/energy drinks. |

Baked spuds. to take with you on route you could take oatmeal cakes or rices cakes, use re-hydration drinks that you mix with water / juice, ( I normally take a maximum of 3 lts on a long ride) |
