OK,

riding 25 miles a day (12.5 each way commute) around four times a week

how long to go from lung busting, heart pounding unfitness to aerobic adonis?

Dudley I think you're doing brilliant but without knowing anything about you I can't answer you're question. A few considerations
1. If you're really unfit you might give yourself a cardiac arrest before you get a chance to get fit.
2. If you're doing too much you might get cheesed off and just pack it in.
3. If neither of above happen then I think you'll find you adapt to it pretty quicky and you're fitness level will jump substantially in a short space of time and you'll really enjoy it. Crawl before you can walk but please, please, plesase KEEP CYCLING. Ron.

HI Dudley, Agree, think you are doing brilliantly. I started pretty much like you but now have steadily increased to 40+ miles. I take it easy at a modest pace and always check my route carefully to ensure there are no surprises. Ie: No energy sapping hill climbs at the end of my ride if I don't need one! I think the best advise I can give is 1. ride at YOUR pace within yourself and 2. as Ron said, KEEP cycling! No better way of getting fit in my opinion. My fitness levels have rocketed since I started cycling again. you can feel when you get better. Keep going Dudley!

have to say, the weather has put me off lately

either snow or minus 6 temps!

back on it now, though.

Dont worry. I'm as unfit as i've ever been, but i dont think i'm heart attack unfit.
