I am looking to buy a bike (Ladies spec geommetry as I am only 5' 1/2" and very slight) with the intention of commuting to work and for general fitness/ leisure purposes. My level of fitness is pretty good at the moment, though not cycled in a good while. I was thinking about a hybrid, just because it gives the option for slightly more rugged terrain than the roads and had narrowd it down to two: the Marin Terra Linda and the Trex 7.5 fx. My knowledge of technical specs is rubbish so am finding it hard to choose on that basis. Is either bike better than the other? How do I choose, or is there another make/ model that I should consider ? http://www.marinbikes.com/2011/bike_spec… http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/tow… Finally what are your general thoughts on hybrids? Should I be more decisive and just go for a road bike? Many many thanks! |

If you only want one bike then you have to compremise on selection, if you use road/pavements and evan off road then a Hybred/flatbar roadie will do the job. If you intend to hit the rough tracks then a mountain bike is the one as it will still do a good job on the road, look at this one it has good specs. http://www.alpinebikes.com/shop/trek/skye-slx-disc-2011/ I think if you are looking for good specs on a bike, look for bikes with 9(27)gears as a starting point. Good luck John |

Although if I could manage 2 that would ease the decision making process! Think that I am probably going to end up going with a Hybrid. I checked out the link that you suggested, very nice bike! I, took your point about the gears and that makes me lean more towards the Trek, which so far seems to be the preferred make of the two. The store I am buying form were decent enough to order both models in my diminutive size, so I guess now all that remains is for me to try them out. I'm impressed that you managed to make such a saving through Ebay...I'd probably end up purchasing the equivalent of a child's trike! Ah well, I need to decide soon, have signed myself and my sister up for the Liverpool to Chester run on the 3rd July, and i don't fancy running behind the other cyclists. thanks again, will let you know what i end up with. |
