John O'Groats to Glasgow cycle path / quiet roads route.

Joined: 02 Mar 2013 Posts: 2 Bike: | As per subject I am planning my first cycle tour in April this year. I am looking for help planning a route which avoids busy roads and utilises cycle routes. I have built a hybrid touring bike with road based tyres for the trip so want to stay away from rough paths. I would e thankful for any help. |

Joined: 27 Feb 2011 Posts: 38 Bike: My Profile | hi there i would take a look at eather Sustrans route 1 from jog down to Inverness (avoid the A9 at all costs ) or across the top to bettyhill then down through Altnahara to bonner bridge picking up route 1 to Inverness , then route 7 to aviemore & on to Glasgow. we took this route last year very nice mostly on cycle tracks that are well signposted, some good climes over slochd but we took a 70 year old with us. hope you enjoy your first tour we're into our 32nd year started in 1980 the key is to make sure you get some rides under your belt as it makes it a lot easier. enjoy yourself and always remember no matter what happens on the day tomorrow is a fresh start. |

Joined: 02 Mar 2013 Posts: 2 Bike: | Thanks for that . That was the route that I was looking at . I'm glad to have confirmation that its the best way to complete the ride. I've been out a bit, been on the turbo and commute every day. So hopefully that base will see me through as I step up the length of my training rides now the days are getting longer. Thanks for the reply. |
