Having got back into cycling and running over the last couple of years due to almost hitting the big 40 I have decided to do the big ride with a few friends this summer I have replaced my mountain bike with the Dawes century se through the cycle to work scheme it should be with me any day soon!

Last year I did my first ever cycle tour and cycled from Manchester to Great Yarmouth taking in a 4 day stop at a camp site in the heart of the Norfolk broads and cycled round the area before finishing at Great Yarmouth.
I did this alone and on a hardtail mountain bike fully loaded with everything I needed and found it one of the most enjoyable holidays I have ever had and hope that I get the same feeling doing the big one!!

Well I will hopefully see as many great sites on this ride and feel the same having completed a another one of life's challenges that people read about but never actually try!

Having done a JOG to LE I wish you well but dont forget to get the miles in and the Devon Hills can be just as bad as Scotland.

there're stacks of posts, here, and on many other sites, about doing an end-to-end. You can even pay an exorbitant amount of money to go on an 'organised' one nowadays! It all depends on so many things....How long are you taking? How light are you riding? Supported, or not supported?, etc, etc, etc. My own recommendations.....Chamois creme(assos only),& beg, borrow or steal support(unless you want to do a heavy lugger tour, & reading between the lines, I'm guessing you're thinking light=fast(er), & it does!). I regularly meet fellow cycle tourists, whilst on 5 week continental tours, who have big heavy tourers, full 5 bag set-up, everything but the kitchen sink, & they're away for 2 weeks, or less! I use the same bike on these tours, albeit with a 24 on the triple now, rather than the original 30, & a heavier load by necessity, that I did for JOGLE....A 'humble' Trek 1000, with rack & guards, obviously. I really enjoyed my e2e, and was very happy with 2 lightish panniers, which contributed immensely to my enjoyment of the ride(one of the biggest 'kicks' I got was hearing completely different dialects each day whilst rolling through towns). I've done/learned from the 'round the world' touring set-up(mind you, vin cox might have something to say about that, having set the world record thanks to a light set-up.) to go on tour. Go light......And, IMO, the hills in Devon ARE worse than my home climbs.....I will always remember Drakewalls.....

Best of luck & enjoy the ride :)

Can't imagine why anyone would want to live in that house (1st white house on the left at the bottom of the hill)

We are doing it as a group supported with tents and food going in a minibus so bikes will be as light as possible!!
we will have small rucksacks with essentials bike repair kits and drinks etc this will be all we will be carrying!
We are planning on a 10 day ride end to end.

I have gone for a bike that is designed for distance but not sure it's ideal as a tourer with a full pannier set up!

I would like to take some time out and do full coastal ride around the full UK but may take a year to complete that one so for now my 2 weeks summer hols being all I have available so probably going Switzerland next year so the end to end ride should be a good test!
