I have registered to ride the L2S in July this year. Has anyone out there done it? What sort of training do I need to do? I'm regularly doing 40-45 mile rides each weekend and am trying to build stamina by choosing hill rides but I suppose I'm apprehensive. Any advice, suggestions would be greatfully received.

Hi Heidi,

Im doing that ride too this year! I was meant to do it last year but my sister had an argument with a taxi while cycling on oxford street 2 days beforehand!

I did the london to cambridge last year which is a similar distance with little training and didnt have any problem with it at all.

I think you will be ok if you are doing 40-45milers each weekend already. have fun though! and maybe I will see you on the way! ill be the nut with no regard for my own life trying to beat my sister!

John

ha ha thanks for that John, very encouraging! :-) Am looking forward to it but need to invest in some waterproof shoes especially after the weather we had on Sunday in the South East...I know July should technically be dry but we do live in England so anything goes doesn't it.

Hi Heidi, I'm doing the London - Southend run, can I ask some advice? I'm new to the cycling thing and I'm frantically training at the gym but want to be as prepared as possible. Can you recommend the best thing to wear on the actual day (top and bottom) to avoid rubbing etc????

thanks

I'll see you there. I have been able to cxycle for a whilebut not recently. I retired in April and decided to take up cycling to get fit. I tend to do up to 3 rides a week, I can now manage 40 miles without much problem. I have also just started to take on steep hills to get more strength and stamina in my legs.

The main way I am getting ready though is to do a number of charity rides building upto the L2S.

I don;t go to the gym but do 30mins general toning espoecially core each day.

Hope this helps.
