I'm now looking at the potential for obtaining sponsorship and wondered if anyone has had any successes with obtaining corporate sponsorship and the like to help pay for costs? My end to end is plannned to be a non- stop ride and am expecting the costs to keep mounting up and up to pay for everything so am hoping to attract any company/ person who would want to contribute to costs/ provide equipment/ provide any other form of assistance (anything from nutritional help, training, to assisting during the duration of the ride). I'm conscious of what I can actually offer them in return and have a website where obviously they would be included as a partner. There's also potential for logo's etc. to be stuck on the support car/ perhaps cycle clothing - has anyone had any ingenious ideas for other things that may provide a worthwhile incentive to companies to get involved? So far I've just been contacting local media to try and get some coverage for the ride before contacting any potential sponsors and am now considering the best strategy forward..... I'm really hoping that money won't get in the way of this ride so if anyone has any tips or success stories they would like to share on obtaining sponsorship I'd love to hear them! Cheers, Rich Follow me at www.richardwestover.com |

Cash WILL be nearly impossible to get your hands on! be prepared to submit tens if not hundreds of sponsorship proposals. Each one needs to be individually tailored. Find out the name of who needs to receive the document, and send direct to him. You need it to get past the secretary / mail room. be prepared for lots of rejection. The 43rd call may be the winner! if you have any graphics skills at all, use the target company's logo on the front, and ideally on a team strip image or whatever. Let them SEE what they might get out of it. remember, a £100 piece of gear costs them less than £50 to give to you. £100 cash costs them £100 cash start off with what you can offer them web exposure newspaper exposure radio exposure tv exposure etc THEN tell them what you want. offer to call it "The XXXX non-stop end-to-end" or something try and get local radio and newspaper interviews set up. they are always dying for cheap copy. offer to BORROW rather than HAVE equipment. you may get a top notch bike with all the gear on loan. try the bike companies - however they get thousands of cycle related enquiries every month. try battery companies - Duracell etc - it is "non-stop" after all vaseline?! sports nutrition? If you are doing this to raise cash for a specific charity, then this will help, as it is not just personal glorification. It is worth asking your chosen charity if they have any specific Corporate links worth exploiting. just a few thoughts |
