Hi, I would like some guidance on which road bike would be good for me. I have a budget of £1'500 to spend on my first road bike, should I buy a carbon or Ali bike, I am about 16 and half stone, so would I be better suited to Ali? I currently ride about 150 miles a week on a mountain bike will semi knobbly tyres and need more speed !!!!!!!!!! Thanks.

Hi John, I do about the same commuting to work every day and ride an Ali Scott S50 Triple. But it was only £600. If I had that amount to spend I would go for a Boardman Carbon. Great reviews, looks cool, well equipped.

I will be interested to the feedback you get too, as I'll be looking to upgrade from my hybrid later this year.

Go to as many bike shops as you can and test ride as many bikes as you can. When they know you've got a fair bit o cash to part with & you're serious, they'll be more than helpful. Plus, you get the backing of your local bike shop, invaluable, especially if you're 'new' to the sport. My tuppence, fwiw, says try a van nicholas mistral. Good reviews, last a lifetimereliability, a bit 'different' than the 'usual', within budget. But then, you might hate the ride....best of luck!
